Tell us about yourself

Hi, I’m Eoin! I’m from Wexford but have been living in Phibsboro now for nearly 6 years. I graduated from DCU in 2020 with a Bachelor of Education. My specialism subject was Science. I’m now in my working as a primary school Teacher in West Dublin.

Why did you apply for the STInt Programme?

Science has been a fascination of mine for a very long time. My particular interests lie in Physics and Applied Mathematics, both of which I studied for the Leaving Certificate. I was delighted to be granted a place in the Science Specialism class during my BEd degree and have had wonderful experiences which have allowed me to find new and exciting ways of providing scientific experiences to pupils.

Beyond formal education I have always found myself drawn to scientific exhibits, documentaries and literature. The most inspiring of these was getting the opportunity to hear physicist Professor Brian Cox lecture in Dublin. This experience was an incredible reminder how important and inspiring science can be. It is this sentiment which I want to pass onto the children I teach.

Where are you doing your ‘STInt’ in industry?

I’m delighted to have accepted a role at Vista Milk for summer 2021. Vista Milk are a research company based in Cork. My internship will most likely be done remotely but may move to a hybrid style of working later in the summer – I’d love to go on site and see what it’s like. I will be helping in designing an experiment kit to be sent out to school as a means of furthering the understanding of scientific concepts in primary school students.
