Tell us about yourself

Hi, I am Amy McGrath! I am from and am currently living in the Sandyford area in Dublin. I graduated from Dublin City University in 2019 with a BA degree in Geography and Irish and I am currently completing my final year in the Professional Master of Education Programme Primary in Dublin City University . My specialism subjects were Maths and Science Education.

Why did you apply for the STInt Programme?

I am passionate about education and am excited about what this programme has to offer me as a future primary school teacher. After learning about this internship programme, I became interested in gaining more knowledge and insight regarding the successful implementation of STEM education in schools. Throughout my postgraduate degree I chose Science and Mathematics as my elective subjects as I enjoy these subjects and I feel there is not enough emphasis placed on them within primary school settings. My experience has taught me that STEM subjects open exciting career pathways. Building a strong STEM foundation is critical and I would love to provide my future students with opportunities to build the necessary skills.

Where are you doing your ‘STInt’ in industry?

I am delighted to have accepted a role as a technology analyst at Citibank Dublin for summer 2021. Citibank are a financial company based in North Dublin. My internship will most likely be done remotely but will hopefully move to a hybrid style of working later in the summer – I would love to get experience working in the on-site environment to see what it is like and to gain experiences and knowledge that cannot be received from working remotely.

I have not yet been given an insight into what work I will be assigned to do, but I am thoroughly looking forward to the experiences and challenges I will be faced with throughout this internship.
