Tell us about yourself

Hi, I’m Lauren! I’m from Delvin in Co. Westmeath. I graduated from DCU in 2020 with a BA in Irish and Human Development. I am currently in my first year of PME (Primary) at DCU. My specialism subject is Science Education.

Why did you apply for the STInt Programme?

When I heard about the STEM Teacher Internship programme I was eager to apply. I always enjoyed STEM subjects throughout my own schooling experience but struggled to see myself having a career in the STEM industry due to lack of exposure to career opportunities. I believe the experience gained from taking part in the STEM Teacher Internship programme will help equip me for encouraging my own students, particularly girls to pursue a career in the STEM industry and open their mind to the opportunities that are available to them.

I am eager to gain as much experience in different roles as possible before beginning my career as a primary school teacher. I believe this internship would grant me an opportunity to develop valuable skills that I may not have the opportunity to develop as a classroom teacher such as working on a project as part of a team (of adults).

Where are you doing your ‘STInt’ in industry?

I’m delighted to have accepted a role at Fidelity Investments for summer 2021. Fidelity Investments are a an investments company based in Dublin that empower people to take control of their financial futures with cutting-edge investment tools. My internship will most likely be done remotely but may move to a hybrid style of working later in the summer – I’d love to go on site and see what it’s like.

I have been informed that I will be joining the  Fidelity Digital Asset Services team for the duration of my placement. I look forward to meeting my manager and the rest of the team and learning about the type of work I will be doing.
