MSD Ireland is one of the country’s leading healthcare companies, having first established here over 50 years ago. In order to understand MSD Ireland, it’s important to get a sense of the Irish pharmaceutical industry and the pivotal role it plays in Ireland’s economy as a whole.

We currently employ approximately 2,700 employees, across six sites in Ballydine, Co Tipperary, Brinny, Co Cork, Carlow, Dunboyne and Dublin and, in addition, operate substantial Human Health and Animal Health businesses.

Significantly our Irish sites manufacture approximately half of MSD’s top twenty products, saving and enhancing lives in over sixty countries around the world.

STEM Teacher Intern Role

This year we are offering 2 STInt internships – one in the learning team and the other in Manufacturing.

The Learning Intern will be a member of the Learning team, supporting managers and individuals across the site, by providing information in order to promote a high performing organisation. This includes design and delivery of customized training plans for new and existing employees.

The Manufacturing Biotech intern will work within a cross functional team of biotech associates and specialists in supporting the production of biologic drug substance and helping to ensure we consistently deliver on specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) metrics, Production Plan, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), compliance and team training.

The STInt Intern will have a laptop provided for the duration of the internship. They will participate in induction as part of their integration into the team. In addition, they will have a buddy who is a member of their team who will support them on queries etc., as well as having regular meetings with the cell leader who can provide additional support as required. Full technical support will be available both from their manager and their buddy.

As part of the experience, the STInt Interns will be involved in supporting multiple elements of the end to end manufacture of biopharmaceuticals and they will come away with an understanding of the wider roles available to future STEM graduates, the scope of such roles and the longer term career opportunities.
