Tell us about yourself

Hi, I’m Orla! I’m from Claremorris, Co. Mayo but I have been living in Dublin for nearly 5 years. I graduated from St. Patrick’s College in 2020 with a Bachelor of Education. My specialism was in Science. I am now currently employed as a Mainstream Class Teacher.

Why did you apply for the STInt Programme?

I applied for the Internship programme last year when I was in college but due to Covid 19, I was unable to complete it. So when I was given the opportunity to take part in the programme again this year, I jumped at the chance! From my participation in the internship programme, I hope to gain an insight into the STEM fields and experience which will no doubt influence my own teaching style and outlook on the STEM subjects. Throughout the duration of the programme, I would like to enhance my communication, organisation and develop my knowledge of information technologies.

Where are you doing your ‘STInt’ in industry?

I am delighted to have accepted a role at Ernest and Young (EY) for summer 2021. Ernest and Young are an Assurance, Consulting, Strategy and Transactions and Tax company based in Hardcourt Street, Dublin 2. My internship will most likely be completed remotely but hopefully as restrictions lift I will be able to go on site and fully immerse myself in the office experience. I have been in touch with my team leader already and she has been excellent in getting me set up for the commencement date. I hope to gain an insight into STEM fields, better my communication skills and develop my understanding of the work done by such a prestigious company.
