Eoghan Monaghan

Tell us about yourself

Hello there, my name is Eoghan Monaghan. I am from a small village in Meath called Bohermeen however I have lived between Drumcondra and Glasnevin for the past 4 years whilst in college.  I have just completed my final year of the Bachelor of Education degree course in DCU and am looking forward to graduating in a few months’ time (hopefully in person, fingers crossed).  My specialism in the B.Ed was Science Education, and I am currently working with Ericsson Software Company based in Athlone.

Why did you apply for the STInt Programme?

I applied for the STInt Programme because I did not want to pass up such a brilliant opportunity to better my knowledge of STEM.  I want to use this experience to broaden my knowledge in STEM and use what I have learned in a creative way in the classroom.  I believe that children’s education in STEM is vitally important for their future and it is something I will be sure to focus on regularly in my future teaching.

Where are you doing your ‘STInt’ in industry?

I am delighted to have accepted a role at Ericsson for the summer 2021. Ericsson are a research driven Software and Tech company based in Athlone. My internship will most likely be done remotely but may move to a hybrid style of working later in the summer – I would love to go on site and see what it’s like.

I hope to bring some innovative thinking in my role with Ericsson and contribute to the team I am working with in any way possible. I also hope to become proficient in coding and some software engineering, as we have been told we will be given a foundation in this. This is something I am extremely excited about and eager to start.
