Umulbaneen Talpur
My name is Baneen and I am studying the BSc in Science Education at UCC. I love biology, using knowledge to solve the problems around me and explaining science to other people. I want to join the STInt programme because I want to gain more experience in working in science and see what it is like to work for a company or in a lab environment. I am excited to apply the skills and techniques I learned in my science modules to real life situations.
I learned a lot of biology based science modules in college but did not get the chance to fully immerse myself in science due to being on teaching placement. While I love my profession as a teacher, I would also like the opportunity to apply what I learned in those modules and see what it is like to work in industry or for a company. Studying science at college has really helped me to gain a newfound appreciation for research and using science to benefit people in some way. The STEM teacher internship programme would be the perfect opportunity for me to work and learn more as well as staying in touch with my teaching profession. It would also help me to explain how science is used in our everyday lives to students in the classroom.
