Emer Thomas
My name is Emer Thomas, I’m currently studying my Professional Masters in Education at Dublin City University. I amd aiming to become a science teacher specialising in Biology and Chemistry. I’m interested in bringing more scientific communication into the classroom to try and encourage students to see how science is useful to them and there’s more to it than what happens in the classroom. I hope to learn some new skills by taking part in the program that I can bring into practice in the classroom.
I think this looks like an amazing and unique opportunity for teachers to gain a better understanding of where STEM will most often lead their students to work. I think it’s important for teachers to get both practical lab skills and also skills in working as a team. They are very transferable skills which can help us to be better more understanding teachers. I think this period at the beginning of my teaching career is the perfect time to learn about some different industries and educate my students about different opportunities they will have after secondary school.
